More thoughts....
I've calmed down a bit from yesterday. I'm still not happy. I understand that health care is screwed up in this country and it DOES need changed but I simply think we're going about it the wrong way.
It seems that a lot of the trouble started because of the HMO act about 30 years ago. Health care got screwed up BECAUSE gov't got involved and now they're getting MORE involved? How is that gonna fix things? What is the logic behind it?
Everything the gov't touches turns into an oversized bureaucracy. If you think there's a lot of BS paperwork now just wait and see.
Plus, what really scares me is that they'll "punish" some groups because of their unhealthy ways but not others. I bet smokers get hosed with gobs of new taxes but motorcycle riders, fat people, sky divers, teen drivers, UFC fighters and other people who cost more than average won't get taxed.
It will turn into a "let's tax people we don't like" orgy and will slowly end up as social engineering.
You can bet that "unhealthy people" will get punished even though some research shows that healthy people are more expensive to treat for a lifetime.
So basically it's going to be an oversized gov't clusterfuck, unfairly payed for by certain people, so that we can ALL get mediocre health care if we can live long enough to wait for all the paperwork to go through.
Sounds great doesn't it?
